The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has urged President Bola Tinubu to adopt measures capable of reducing the price of petrol and easing the economic burden on Nigerians.

Atiku made the call on Friday during a world press conference at his residence in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The former Vice President reiterated his call for the reversal of the fuel subsidy policy, arguing that government intervention was necessary to alleviate the hardship faced by poor Nigerians, households, workers and businesses.

Atiku urged Tinubu to use the remaining months of his administration to take urgent steps to reduce the cost of petrol and make life more affordable for Nigerians.

He said the President should not reject a policy proposal simply because it came from a political opponent, stressing that what mattered was the impact of such a measure on Nigerians.

“That is why I am calling on Tinubu to act now. He has approximately eight months remaining in office.

“Tinubu should not be ashamed to do what is necessary to lower the price of petrol simply because Atiku Abubakar proposed a government intervention.

“He should just take the idea, rename it if he wishes, and even take the credit. What matters to me is that Nigerians pay less,” Atiku said.

He added, “A sensible idea does not become a bad idea because it came from your opponent. If responsible intervention can lower prices, intervene. If changing course can help Nigerians’ families change course for God’s sake.

“Nigerians do not need another elaborate palliative economy. Do not make life unbearable.”
