Atiku Demands Justice Over Deaths in NSCDC Custody

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has demanded justice and full accountability over the deaths of dozens of Nigerians in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Niger State.

Atiku, in a statement posted on X, described the deaths as “deeply saddening and profoundly disturbing,” saying those in government custody remained entitled to the protection of their lives and dignity.

“No Nigerian should enter government custody and lose the most basic right of all: the right to life,” he said.

The ADC presidential candidate commended the Federal Government for suspending the officers under whose watch the incident occurred and ordering a full investigation.

However, he stressed that the investigation must be independent, thorough and transparent, with its findings made public.

Atiku said anyone found responsible through action, abuse or negligence must be held fully accountable.

He also called for justice for the families of the deceased, saying they deserved more than condolences.

“The families of the deceased deserve more than condolences. They deserve the truth. They deserve justice,” Atiku said.

He expressed sympathy with the bereaved families and prayed for strength and comfort for them, while urging that the truth surrounding the deaths be established without delay.
